CDD India and the Divecha Centre, IISc for Climate Change are jointly organizing the International Conference on Nature-based Solutions for Water Circularity and Sustainability. This event will bring together experts, researchers, and industry leaders to explore innovative approaches to integrated water management.

Join us to gain insights, share knowledge, and be part of the global effort to create sustainable water solutions for a resilient future.

We are CDD India, a dedicated team of professionals from a non-profit organization headquartered in Bengaluru, focused on advancing water and sanitation solutions. Our mission is to innovate, demonstrate, and mainstream inclusive approaches to address pressing water and sanitation challenges. By developing decentralized, contextualized, and resilient nature-based solutions, we aim to drive sustainability and promote water circularity through a systems approach. Together, we are committed to fostering a future where sustainable water management becomes a reality for all.

The Divecha Centre for Climate Change was established at Indian Institute of Science in January 2009 with a generous financial contribution from Arjun and Diana Divecha and the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment. The primary goal of this centre is to understand climate variability and climate change and its impact on the environment. The Centre has undertaken outreach activities to create awareness among people and policy makers about climate change and its consequences. This has been done through workshops, lectures and quiz contests. An annual invited public lecture called the 'Jeremy Grantham Lecture on Climate Change' has been organized.

TOGETHER WE CAN

Imagine a future where water flows endlessly, nurtured by nature's wisdom. Together, we can create a legacy of sustainability, ensuring that the rivers of tomorrow are as full as our hopes today.

NbS Event Themes

Nature-Based and Eco-centric Approaches to Used Water Management

This theme explores sustainable, eco-centric methods for managing used water, focusing on the integration of nature-based solutions to treat and reuse wastewater. It emphasizes how these approaches can reduce environmental impacts, enhance water quality, and promote resource conservation, offering a holistic, resilient approach to urban water management.

Nature-Based and Ecologically-Informed Strategies for Mitigating Urban Flooding and Managing Stormwater

This theme highlights the role of nature-based and ecologically-informed strategies in mitigating urban flooding and managing stormwater. By harnessing natural systems such as wetlands, vegetated areas, and permeable surfaces, cities can reduce flood risks, improve water retention, and restore natural hydrological cycles, ensuring a more sustainable urban environment.

Mitigating Drought and Groundwater Overexploitation through Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and Rainwater Harvesting

This theme focuses on innovative solutions for drought mitigation and addressing groundwater overexploitation. Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and rainwater harvesting are presented as key strategies for replenishing aquifers, ensuring water availability during dry periods, and promoting sustainable water use in regions facing water scarcity.

Using Nature-Based Solutions to Manage Water Bodies and Wetlands to Enhance Aquatic Ecosystems

This theme delves into the use of nature-based solutions to restore and manage water bodies and wetlands, crucial habitats for biodiversity. It emphasizes how these solutions help enhance aquatic ecosystems, improve water quality, and protect endangered species, while also promoting resilience to climate change and human pressures on freshwater resources.

Enhancing Water Quality through Nature-Based Solutions: Harnessing Ecosystem Services for Sustainable Water Management

This theme focuses on leveraging the natural filtration processes and ecosystem services provided by wetlands, forests, and riparian zones to improve water quality. By enhancing the natural capacity of ecosystems to filter pollutants and manage nutrient cycles, nature-based solutions offer a sustainable approach to maintaining clean and safe water for communities.

Dr. Tapas Chakma, Scientist ‘G’, at ICMR-National Institute of Research in Tribal Health, Jabalpur has been working in the field of water and sanitation for the last 30 years. He identified the problem of fluorosis for the first time in Madhya Pradesh in a village named Tilaipani in Mandla district in 1995. He supported his clinical findings along with biochemical and radiological parameters along with very high ground water fluoride level (9-10 ppm). He developed an intervention model for fluorosis mitigation with a basic concept of provision of safe drinking water and nutritional supplementation through dietary modification. He demonstrated that with this concept bone deformities due to fluorosis could be reversed in children. The concept of this model has been included in the National Program for Fluorosis Prevention and Control, Ministry of Health, Government of India in 2009 where Dr. Chakma renders his services as a technical expert. He is a recipient of many awards, of which few prominent awards are “Thakkar Bapa Award” Conferred by Govt. of MP in 2023, and BC Roy Oration award by IMA MP Chapter in 2019.
